House Rent Agreement

Lawyer's note. Under the Premises Rent Control Act 1991, the landlord must issue a rent receipt for every payment, and demanding a premium or excessive advance beyond what the law allows is restricted. Agreements are customarily executed on non-judicial stamp paper (commonly BDT 300).
How to use this document correctly
- Print on non-judicial stamp paper of the customary value and keep one signed copy per party.
- Record the flat's condition and utility meter readings in an annexure signed by both parties.
Frequently asked questions
Does a rent agreement need to be notarized?
Notarization is not mandatory for validity, but executing it on stamp paper with witnesses is the standard practice and strengthens it as evidence.
Can the landlord refuse to give rent receipts?
No — issuing rent receipts is the landlord's obligation under the Premises Rent Control Act 1991. Pay by bank transfer if receipts are refused, to keep proof.
